Kremmergaarden Senter
About the project
With the completion of the "Kremmergaarden Senter" in the center of Ålesund, a true architectural gem has appeared. The already existing shopping and entertainment center received a four-story extension, which houses office spaces. To make the modern building look like a unified architectural complex, the old facade was removed. The new facade solution includes a combination of building materials: natural stone, glass, and aluminum. The installation of such a facade required exceptional geometric precision of the panels. The interplay of various materials gives the facade a lightness that blends very well with the surrounding buildings of the shopping center, designed in the Jugend style. The facade stone slabs, 3 cm thick with a polished surface, were made of Jura Cream. They were manufactured according to special specifications considering factory-made anchor holes. The additional selective choice of stone slab thicknesses allowed for a dynamic play of light and shadow.
