Mathematikon Heidelberg

About the project
The campus of Heidelberg University has 3 buildings A, B1, and B2 of the "Mathematikon Heidelberg." Building A is a seminar and institute building that houses the faculties of mathematics and computer science, as well as an interdisciplinary center for scientific data processing with classrooms and a library. The upper floors of buildings B1 and B2 contain offices and laboratories, while the first floor has shops, a bank, and grocery stores. All three buildings have a ventilated facade made of limestone: the two outer buildings A and B2 are clad with 4 cm slabs of Jura Gold, while the middle building B1 is clad with Fossil Smoke. The height of the stones as well as their length vary, giving the facade an interesting structure. Thanks to three different surface finishes (coarse grinding C60, standard grinding C120, and sandblasting), the same facade material appears darker or lighter.
