Scandic Continental Hotel

About the project
In the very center of Stockholm, near the Citybanan station, the largest and busiest terminal in Sweden, is "Stockholm Continental": a multifunctional complex with apartments, a hotel, and a shopping center, and a service area for passengers regularly arriving in the capital of Sweden. The external facade of this impressive building, designed by the architects 3XN, is clad with slabs of natural Jura limestone. The sloping sides of all four sections are emphasized by large trapezoidal slabs, the shapes of which were carefully processed by controlled CAD bridge saws. These slabs have a diamond-scratched surface, and wide velvet was used around the windows. The slabs were fastened to the substructure using Fischer undercut anchors. The additional selective choice of stone slab thicknesses allowed for a dynamic play of light and shadow.
